Friday was a huge day in my life. When the CPOY results were posted I felt a rush of excitement and nervous energy. To say it was surreal does not describe it. I thought nothing could top that moment, but I was wrong.
The three days that followed were even more special. During that time I heard from what seems like every person I have ever met. All of those people who bent over backwards to help me along. I have been overwhelmed by the hugs, calls, blogs, and emails that have come pouring in, and I will eventually respond to each and every one of you. I have never been so happy to exceed the minutes on my wireless plan. More than anything, this experience has been a reminder of what a wonderful circle of friends I have. Your support and encouragement means the world to me.

I know we have said throughout the week, but you are so deserving of this and as colleagues, classmates and friends of yours we are so proud. This award could not have gone to a more genuine and hard-working photographer. It is rewarding something that is unfortunately rare – someone who has an obvious dedication to storytelling and desire to honor those he photographs. All of that said, congrats once again. The best is yet to come.
